Many states currently have no laws or regulations that would make it more difficult for rapists to seek out custody of any children resulting from that rape. Potential mothers who were victims of rape have already been hurt and lost their power and rights to say no during said rape. We should be doing everything we can to prevent fathers resulting from forcible rape gaining custody or visitation rights if the woman is a fit mother. Rapists can use custody as a trade off when it comes to long awaited court cases; promising to not pursue fatherhood as long as the victim doesn't try to convict them for the attack and rape. Rapists can use this to keep women in fear for the rest of their lives and have them relive that experience and loss of power. It's time to support the victim and child.
