Stricter regulations on firearms and weapons bans only hurt the law abiding citizen. To help reduce gun violence we must implement harsher punishments for those who commit crimes with weapons. Banning "assault" weapons and high capacity magazines will only prevent them from getting into the hands of those who adhere to the law and intend to use them in lawful ways. Even if bans are implemented criminals will always have a way to obtain a weapon of their choice but if they face much stricter punishments for even possessing a weapon illegally they may think twice about committing the crime.
