Dextromethorphan (DXM) is an ingredient that suppresses cough and is found in products such as Delsym and Mucinex.
The abuse of Dextromethorphan is becoming a growing concern among young adults, teens, and even children. When taken in large doses the drug is known to cause paranoia, hallucinations, distortion of vision, vomiting, the loss of coordination and good judgement. Those that abuse the drug can become psychologically dependent on the drug.
In 2011 the Department of Justice and Drug Enforcement Administration included Dextromethorphan on their list of drugs of concern but three years later and this drug continues to be easily accessible.
