Create a student loan forgiveness program similar to the one available to teachers for police, fire, and EMS workers.

Teachers are eligible for student loan forgiveness after 5 years of service as a teacher. I think police officers, firefighters, and other emergency workers should be eligible for student loan forgiveness as well. These positions are often the backbone of our country; the first to serve and protect their community. Often times public safety workers take on multiple jobs to be able to offset the frequently low pay that comes with these positions. That can make it very hard for a police, fire, or EMS worker to pay high student loan bills.
