As public employees being paid out of public funds nothing the government does should be hidden from the public.
There is no matter of national security that the citizens should not know about. There is no legislation to be written that the public should not have full open access to. There is no action of any kind that the government could take that should be invisible to the public.
It should be a illegal for a public official to lie, or obstruct the truth, about any public matter.
Legislation such as the FOIA should not need to exist. Any US citizen should have full access to anything the government does without having to file a lawsuit and without data redaction.
Allowing governments to work behind a curtain has failed. Let the US lead by example and remove that curtain.
