President Obama vowed Sunday to "use whatever power this office holds" to prevent another tragedy like the mass murder of children at the Sandy Hook Elementary School. "These tragedies must end."
One way to begin this process is to regulate guns through the insurance industry and with licensing requirements implemented and enforced by each state, much as automobile ownership and operation are enforced.
Contrary to the argument posed by NRA-advocates that gun rights reform would kill jobs, we contest that establishing a gun-insurance industry would create thousands of jobs.
In doing so we will begin to introduce an element of regulation and safety to the firearms industry without infringing on the people's fundamental right to bear arms.
