The World War II generation is often referred to as the greatest American generation ever. They were able to join together and defeat the enemies of the United States. All citizens rationed and paid taxes knowing they were defeating Hitler and Japan. Now is our time to fight a war with our national debt. A temporary tax should be enacted that is designed to reduce the debt. Everyone pays because all have received benefits in one way or another. The brackets would be 2.5%, 3.5%, 5%, 6.5%, 8%, and 10%. No one would be exempt. The revenue collected could only go to pay down the national debt. Money could not be used for any other programs. The tax would be legislated to last 10 years.
