We propose that the IRS offer any taxpayer who is at least two years behind a one-time settlement offer of 5%. We additionally ask that the settlement offer constitute the original balance owed and penalties and interest be waived.
The aggressive collection activities of the IRS burdens the segment of our population least able to pay with even more fines and penalties.
In addition, faced with financial difficulties, these policies create an almost permanent under class of citizens who are forced to go underground and become prime targets for unscrupulous tax relief firms.
We also believe that the issue of back taxes and the nearly 12 million Americans who owe the IRS back taxes respectfully become part of the 2016 Presidential Debate.
