The backlog of veterans' claims for medical care, education, housing and other benefits is estimated to be more than a year long at the moment and growing every day. As we wind down Afghanistan, the problem of logjammed VA claims will only get worse.
At the same time, tens of thousands of veterans are unable to find jobs in the current economy.
This petition asks the Obama Administration to establish a new program which would find and employ as temporary workers as many jobless vets as it would take to provide clerical, review and other assistance to the VA until the backlog returns to reasonable levels. Many of these veteran temps would gain valuable skills and improve their resumes in the process of filling these positions. It's a win-win situation.
