Numerous citizens encompassing the so-called "rich" have joined forces with our president in chiding their own, other "rich" citizens who earn over an arbitrary amount of income, to pay their "fair share". According to the latest IRS data, in 2010 the top 1% of income earners paid over 37% of this country's taxes, while the top 5% paid over 59%.
As we await negotiations from the so-called fiscal cliff to engender any meaningful reform, we should provide a mechanism for the "rich" who feel guilty with respect to their tax burden to make a voluntary IRS contribution to achieve paying their "fair share". Of course, voluntarily overpaying your taxes has never been unavailable, but such a mechanism should exist to, for lack of a better phrase, let them put their money where their mouths are.
