The objective of this petition is to direct the Obama Administration to create guidelines for a voluntary media industry agreement that would require news and information outlets to withhold the identities of shooting spree suspects in order to deny them the notoriety they may hope to gain through their violent acts. News, media, and information outlets (including Wikipedia) that sign on to this agreement would voluntarily refrain from reporting the names of massacre suspects, or any details that would effectively identify them. Since it seems likely that a major goal of such killers is to gain notoriety and attention, this agreement would remove a major motivation for committing such horrible crimes. This would be a voluntary code of conduct and not a law, and therefore constitutional.
