With the continuing drought in California, the potential for devastating economic impact to the Southwest region as well as the agriculture and economy of the entire nation is in jeopardy. Inaction on the part of the administration and congress could lead to a collapse of the California economy, a mass migration to other parts of the nation, and the displacement of up to 10% of America's population. Water is life in the Southwest. If predictions are true and there is only a 12 month reserve in California's aquifers, action needs to be taken soon on a national scale to replenish the water that has now migrated to other parts of the country due to climate change.
