Many Americans want to do more work, supplement their income, or just do something that advances the good of our communities and nation. The New Deal's WPA and CCC gave people meaningful jobs while stimulating the economy. Today, the Internet provides a new way that citizens could work in their available time... if they had a structured system (compare Amazon's "Mechanical Turk") to assign tasks and accept results.
Surely the many branches of our government have immense quantities of information that needs to be processed in ways that are still a challenge to fully automate. Being able to participate in government projects meaningfully would help citizens to feel invested in our common betterment while solving problems and earning additional income.
