HSV 1 and HSV 2 affect an estimated 80 million Americans alone, becoming a silent pandemic . It is an incredibly stigmatized and devastating disease. While not deadly on its own in adults, it can be in newborns. A 100 million dollar X prize would create the incentive for research labs to find the cure. HSV 1 and 2 are some of the most serious diseases and yet are the most underfunded in research in the infectious disease labs. Lets begin the process of eradicating this disease and in the process halting the spread of many other serious diseases it can help to spread.
