With the recent protests against the brutal slayings by police officers, the Department of Justice should be appointed to investigate and prosecute individuals (police officers) found to have used excess force against an individual, which resulted in the death of such individual.
There is a significant conflict of interest by having local prosecutors try cases against accused police officers, especially those who have developed a relationship with the said prosecutor in providing evidence and possible testimonies against arrested offenders. A separate court is needed to objectively try and prosecute officers who have overstepped their boundaries and rules that govern how they conduct their duties. As a suggestion these cases may be heard by the Supreme Courts.
