It is the belief of those signing this petition that the right to advertise for prescription medication should be criminalized. The rights of pharmaceutical companies and other agencies to advertise their prescription medications have had serious negative societal impacts. Many of the drugs prescribed on television promise to solve issues for people; issues which people may self-diagnose in order to gain the medication they desire. It is only for a physician to judge a persons illness or otherwise need for medication. There is no need for, or circumstance in which, public advertisement of prescription medication is positive or necessary. Also, the creation of "name brand" medication has consistently driven up prescription costs.
