Curb Prosecutor's overwhelming, and unchecked power which has no place in a democratic society, and is rife with abuse.

This petition is meant to urge the administration into passing legislation that will reasonably limit prosecutors power. The existence of the so called "trial penalty", which punishes defendants who wish to exercise their right to a trial needs to be eliminated. Prosecutors have overwhelming power and discretion in what charges they file against a defendant and this needs to be stopped and a system of checks and balances needs to be created. Power of this magnitude has no place in a democratic society, and has ruined countless lives most notably and recent Aaron Swartz.
