The federal debt has increased in recent years as have federal subsidies to energy producers. In fiscal year 2007, federal subsidies to energy producers such as nuclear, biomass, wind, solar, coal and biofuels totaled $12 million; in fiscal year 2010 federal subsidies totaled approximately $21.2 billion. Federal subsidies to energy producers needs to be totally eliminated.
