Congressional Members currently make an annual salary of over $170,000 depending on position and other factors in addition to full benefits. However the idea of a pay cut has never seemed to cross their minds as they instead pass legislation allowing for the termination of Tuition Assistance for Active Duty Military personnel, most of whom qualify for services like WIC due to their minimal income, as well as a 10% cut to those receiving Unemployment Benefits.
It is time the Congressional Members take their fair share of the hardship, and while 20% may not even begin to cover what many think they should be reduced, it is enough. It is enough to cover 93,000 credit hours at $200 an hour in TA for Military Members. It needs to be done.
