Cut congressional salaries until Congress does its job.

Created by N.K. on March 01, 2013

The job of Congress is to find reasonable compromise between the various interests in our society. Given that Congress clearly has been doing its best to avoid compromise, instead using their positions for grandstanding and obstructionism, they are not doing their job.

If Congress abdicates its own responsibility, and gives the President the power to rearrange budget cuts mandated by the sequester as he sees fit, we petition the President to start with Congress.

There are 435 voting members of the House and 100 senators, each being paid $174000 per year. Admittedly, $93 million per year won't get us far in eliminating our deficit, but it's a start.

Perhaps as a good-will gesture, the President could refuse to take his own salary until he helps Congress get back to work.
