cut corporate tax loopholes and subsidies to big oil and big ag, etc. before cutting domestic safety net programs

Corporations that make billions in profits while receiving billions in subsidies and tax loop-holes, should make the first sacrifices to avoid the fiscal cliff, not the social safety nets that have become so threadbare in the last 30 years or so.
