The ongoing drought in California has been a problem for years and is just getting worse. While there are many causes for the drought, a large problem is the amount of almonds being grown. 82% of the world's almonds are grown in California and take up over one million acres, this is more than any other crop in the state. One almond takes a whole gallon of water to grow and to plant almond trees farmers dig deep wells to prevent their trees from dying in droughts. I propose that the White House/ California Government creates a law that forces almond farmers to find new, more water friendly methods to grow and harvest their crop.
