On 2/24, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni signed the highly controversial Anti-Homosexuality Bill into law. This bill most notably sentences "repeat homosexual offenders" to life in prison. It also carries serious consequences for any person or organization supporting or advocating for LGBT individuals.
This bill violates many fundamental human rights. In addition, this bill could be used against Ugandan opposition party members; there have been cases in the past where individuals have been framed for crimes in order to remove them from the public eye.
The LGBT community of Uganda is in danger. Already Norway, Denmark, and the Netherlands have suspended aid to Uganda, channeling funds to instead to private aid/rights groups. It's time for the US to do the same.
