The penny costs more to make then it is worth. Millions of dollars of tax money goes into pennies! (Seventy million in 2008, twenty-two million in 2009.)
Cutting school and science budgets, etc, is less helpful overall then removing pennies all together. When was the last time anyone used a penny anyway?
