Cut military spending and use the money to fund more important issues like education, and poverty. In particular, use a portion of the money saved to either fund programs and organizations already created for the express purpose of combating poverty worldwide, or use the money saved to fund a new program created by the Obama Administration, that would be dedicated to helping poverty stricken communities around the world.
The United States spends the most on it's military than any other country in the world. It is a well known fact that if we were to cut our military by half, we would still have the largest military in the world.
