Pay Senators and Congressmen a per diem only for the time they spend in Washington DC. The job is a civil service and these people should not make the amount of money they make. All Senators and Congressmen should be required to have a job in their home state outside of politics the same way it was when our government was started. Senators and Congressmen should not be allowed to give themselves raises and should not be allowed to take money from lobbyists while in office. If discovered receiving money, they should immediately replaced without a congressional hearing.
