Mr. President, we are aware and grateful that you are taking steps to address the Syrian refugee crisis. However, we are also aware that the help in its most basic forms is not reaching refugees fast enough. Staff, shelter, medicine, food, are all not reaching refugees in response to the money being promised or sent.
Some countries have approved programs for people or religious organizations to host families themselves until long-term solutions can be forged. Such a solution should be green-lighted here, where we could take both financial and legal responsibility for a family, similar to how a company can sponsor an employee's green card.
Do not let people continue to die at the hands of beaurocacy. Let us host the tired, poor, huddled masses in our homes and communities.
