Cut the ridiculous national defence budget and use that money to fund education and the sciences.

We petition President Barack Obama and the 112th Congress of the United States to rethink the national budget.
Our defence budget is ridiculously high. The Armed Forces do not need that much money to protect a nation which is currently in peacetime.
As an alternative, we propose that funding be redistributed to education and science. This will get America back on the global "playing field" of innovation, and will bring jobs back home.
In addition, better education would lower crime rates, due to the students' new abilities which can be used to acquire a job.
