With sequestration budget cuts looming, one has to wonder whether the salaries of our elected officials will be affected. After all, the impasse is a result of bipartisan inflexibility. Taking into account JUST the total current salaries of all members of Congress and Senate ($174,000-223,500) as well as V.P. Biden ($231,900) and Pres. Obama ($400,000), the total budget is $93,849,000. The average government employee salary ($51,340) and overall US average salary ($45,230) are significantly less. Below is the math showing a rough estimate of government jobs saved based on pay cuts to JUST our elected officials:
9% cut: 160 jobs ($8,443,400)
15% cut: 270 jobs ($14,077,350)
2000 salary scales: 340 jobs ($17,769,600)
