Leonard Peltier is a Native American activist accused in 1975 in the shooting deaths of two FBI agents. Government documents show that the FBI decided to 'lock Peltier into the case'. U.S. prosecutors knowingly presented false statements to a Canadian court to extradite Peltier. The government has since admitted that its eyewitness was not present during the shootings. Regarding the false affidavits to extradite Peltier from Canada, Judge Donald Ross stated: "... what happened happened in such a way that it gives some credence to the claim... that the United States is willing to resort to to any tactic in order to bring somebody back to the USA from Canada?
