Death to the Electoral College

Proposal to abolish the Electoral College, in favor of a direct voting system where everyone's vote is equal, and the total majority of votes wins.
Why?
in the current system:
- Votes from smaller state are worth more than those in larger states, which means every vote is NOT equal
- We still only are 'recommending' a vote for the Electors, who are legally free to chose whoever they'd like
- Gerrymandering leads to completely unfair voting results
- We have the technology to vote directly; we just don't use it
- Our current system is allowing for the majority of votes to lose the election, which could be easily fixed if we let go of the old system in favor of a better one
