How many times have you given pennies away simply because you do not want to deal with them? When is the last time you actually felt it was worth your time to bend down and pick up a penny from the sidewalk?
It currently costs 2.41 cents to manufacture the insignificant piece of %5 copper we call the penny. And we make nearly 5 billion pennies a year, costing us, the American taxpayer, over $120,000,000! For a penny!?
The penny is virtually unneeded. The US military doesn't even use pennies overseas. They simply round to the nearest nickel. There are a number of countries that don't use the penny, including our neighbor, Canada.
