We all remember the heroes of 9/11. The first responders and the everyday people who stepped up and risked, and in too many cases gave, their lives that day.
But we overlook the others following that day, when Americans wanted to do something, anything to help. Besides contributing funds, many stepped up and so flooded the blood donation system that the system was overloaded with donations.
We have had our revenge. Now it's time to mark that time in a positive way. Make the days following Sept 11th a time of remembering by again swamping the system with donations of blood, platelets, and registering as donors of organs.
Become the heroes of those whose very lives depend on it.
