The American Prairie Reserve is an ambitious project currently underway in Montana to create a 3,500,000 acre reserve to preserve threatened native grassland ecosystems and restore them to their original biodiversity.
This project is slow, however, having to navigate copious red tape and purchase tracts of land piece by piece. Time is crucial in this conservation project.
If the Administration were to declare the region a National Monument, then the conservation could be immediate and all encompassing, forever preserving a great portion of one of America's most iconic and valuable ecosystems, the Great Plains prairie.
