Harvey Milk was the first openly gay person to be elected to public office in the nation. Harvey was a true pioneer in the LGBT rights movement and is a hero to countless gay citizens. He fought for dignity for all people in San Francisco. Harvey served almost 11 months in office in San Francisco before he was assassinated. May 22, Harvey's birthday, should be a federal holiday as he was a pioneer in gay civil rights.
