The armed occupation of a government facility by an ideologically motivated extremist is in violation of federal law. The individuals forcefully occupying the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon are deliberately trying to coerce the public and government policy through the threat of violence including the use of lethal force and martyrdom. Therefore, the current activities must be treated as an act of domestic terrorism, on par with the motivations of the actions performed on by the extremists who terrorized this nation on September 11, 2001.
