The nation of Iran continues to pursue nuclear weapons capability, apparently undeterred by the current economic sanctions in place against it.
This petition would require the United States to test a nuclear weapon within 90 days of any potential future Iranian Nuclear Weapons Test.
The purpose of this declaration would be to let the Iranians know that the United States does take the threat of their weapons program seriously, and that the United States stands ready to respond to any Iranian use of such a weapon.
In addition the United States nuclear arsenal is aging and has not been tested since 1992. This test would ensure that should Iran (or North Korea) use a nuclear weapon, the United States would be capable of responding in kind.
