April 12, 2015 marks the 60th anniversary of the announcement that the polio vaccine developed by Dr Salk was safe and effective.
The announcement was cause for rejoicing throughout the country and the world. In the years since the scourge of polio has nearly been eradicated.
President Obama, please honor Dr Salk and celebrate this triumph of modern medicine by declaring April 12th a national holiday.
