Our nation remains divided by race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, and matters of personal security. As long as we are divided, we struggle to even have the conversations amongst Americans that we need to understand each other and reach agreement on police policy, public safety and protection of the individual.
Black Lives Matter is a grass roots movement to heal the roots of historic racism, to instill in police and government institutions an awareness and sensitivity to past inequities, and to open the doors to mutual peaceful cooperation to reduce the episodes of violent police confrontation with unarmed, passive and non-criminal individuals.
We believe the first step to achieving mutual understanding is for Congress, the President, and all governments to acknowledge their goal.
