Declare broadband internet service a public utility, and end price gouging, which artificially widens the digital divide

Created by M.R. on September 27, 2014

There was a time when internet service was a novelty, a luxury. A time when people didn't rely upon it for their livelihoods and education. That time is over, just as it was for electricity in the past. At a time when more than 50% of Americans live in or near poverty, cable and other broadband providers continue to raise their rates, and further entrench their monopolies. Many of us rely upon internet access to make a living in the only way we know how, and are forced to pay exorbitant and unnecessary rates that we can't really afford.

The greed of today's modern robber barons is a huge burden to our standard of living, at a time when we need it least. It's time that we confiscate this monopoly from those who have proven themselves unworthy to serve the American people!
