The Chocolate Chip Cookie was invented by Ruth Wakefield in the 1930s. Since then it has become a favorite among the American people. A survey conducted by Impulse Research for the Downtown Cookie Co., found that 53 percent of adults surveyed prefer Chocolate Chip Cookies over all other varieties. In fact, Americans eat more than 7 billion Chocolate Chip Cookies a year! Massachusetts and Pennsylvania have already declared the Chocolate Chip to be their official state cookie. A National Cookie may seem foolish, but National Symbols are what promote unity, patriotism, and nationalism. If we can declare a National Bird, we should also be able to declare a National Cookie! The Chocolate Chip Cookie is the All-American cookie which is why it is time to declare it the National Cookie of the U.S.
