The Election Day Holiday Petition requests that the executive branch declare Election Day to be a national or "bank" holiday; more specifically, the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of every even-numbered year, upon which both presidential &/or congressional elections take place.
This will encourage higher turnout by providing voters with more opportunity to find and visit their local polling places, which can sometimes be an unexpectedly time-consuming task. It will also reduce the waiting time during what would be peak hours before and after work, making it easier for seniors & parents with young children to vote.
In addition, voters will have more time to research their choices, which could increase turnout for local and state initiatives on the ballot.
