Declare election day a national holiday.

Created by L.M. on December 20, 2014

Democracy is the bedrock of our nation and, while we are afforded the right to elect our officials, it is truly a privilege that many take for granted. We as an electorate have the duty to be civic minded and participate in the process. We can no longer let our leadership be decided by others and then complain about the "unfair" system we help promulgate by being absent. To those that vote I say thank you. To those that don't I say take heed for your liberties are being diminished by your silence. To help us all be heard I ask that barriers to entry be further reduced. By making election day a holiday, not only do we shed additional light on the importance of the process, we give additional opportunity to individuals who find it hard to choose between voting and missing work.
