On February 10th, 1998, we lost an American treasure. Buddy, the titular character of the Air Bud series, as well as Comet from Full House, was an integral part of the American zeitgeist.
Buddy broke the species barrier and taught America that a dog could shoot a free throw as well, or better, than any human. His perseverance should be heralded as well. Buddy, as Comet, ran from Ohio to San Francisco in order to find a loving family, the Tanners. Buddy's story is the great American story, and should be regarded as such.
After his death, he was replaced by another retriever, but this dog could not retrieve the hearts of those devastated by Buddy's death. We, the undersigned, petition the White House to designate February 10 as National Air Bud Day, to commemorate America's best friend.
