Declare the Flickr API a National Historic Landmark, requiring it to be maintained by Yahoo as an open resource.

Created by D.W. on December 15, 2012

The Flickr API is a treasure that hundreds of developers have built on. It represents a resource not just for an individual company, but the Internet as a whole.

There's legitimate concern that the existing API will be "deprecated" by Yahoo, thereby breaking the developer apps.

While we believe strongly in entrepreneurial creativity, to break the Flickr API has serious public implications. We petition both Yahoo and the government to help maintain this resource.

It's a win-win. We get to keep building and Yahoo can say they're the first tech company to have one of its creations declared as an official national treasure.
