Declare Internet Access a right, bypass the telecomms & provide the infrastructure for fiber optic cable to everyone.

Created by C.N. on February 13, 2014

It is clear that the telecommunications industry owns the FCC and has been able to create local monopolies which continually jack up rates (without warning) and provide terrible service. This is why Americans pay the most for the slowest internet speeds among developed countries. Internet access is a necessity for everything from doing your taxes to making an appointment with a doctor and should, therefore, be a right. To bypass the corruption of the telecom industry & the FCC (a revolving door with the telecoms), the federal government should build the infrastructure for a fast fibre optic network itself and leave it to content providers to charge for content only, not for access.. If we can do it for highways, we can do it for the telecommunication highway too.
