Two score and seven years ago, the crew of the Apollo 11 mission accomplished what had once been a fantasy. On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins made history by becoming the first people to step foot on another world. Their courage is fittingly described by Jules Verne in "From the Earth to the Moon:"
"It is but fair to add that these Yankees, brave as they have ever proved themselves to be, did not confine themselves to theories and formulae, but that they paid heavily, in propria persona, for their inventions."
The crew of the Apollo 11 deserve to be commemorated with a federal holiday honoring their bravery and the role they played in American history.
