Declare July 4th, 2014 National ALS Awareness day

Created by C.H. on June 23, 2014

July 4th, 2014 will mark the 75th anniversary of what is thought to be the greatest (and albeit emotional) speeches of all-time, given by then-New York Yankees 1st Baseman Lou Gehrig.

Prior to that emotional speech, Gehrig was diagnosed with ALS (commonly known today as Lou Gehrig's disease). He succumbed about 2 years later to this awful disease.

This petition is to ask that July 4, 2014 (and every year on July 4th thereafter) be designated as National ALS Awareness day to honor the lives of those affected with this horrific disease.

I realize that July 4th is also America's Birthday, but I couldn't go without any recognition for this anniversary and honoring the lives of others who were killed and those still suffering.
