Roger Joseph Ebert was a film critic and writer. Mr. Ebert's contributions to the art of filmmaking over his 46 year career are immeasurable.
In 1967, Roger Ebert began his career as a film critic. In 1975, Mr. Ebert became the first film critic to receive the Pulitzer Prize. In 1978, he began a television partnership with Gene Siskel that lasted 20 years, giving the world the famous "Two Thumbs Up". Mr. Ebert wrote, taught, and impacted everybody privileged to have known him. Despite 11 years fighting cancer, Roger kept working right until the end in 2013.
President Obama, you have stated "Roger was the movies" and are yourself the former senator of his home state of Illinois. Accordingly, we hereby urge you to formally declare his birthday, June 18, as National Roger Ebert Day.
