The Bald Eagle was selected as America's National Emblem by our country's Founding Fathers on June 20, 1782 at the Second Continental Congress. For over 200 years it has served as the living symbol of all that we Americans stand for: Freedom, Courage, Strength, Spirit, and Excellence.
Since the founding of our country, there has never been a National Day set aside to recognize our country's inspirational bird and the role that it has played in our lives, past and present. Making June 20th an annual day to remember and commemorate this majestic and important American symbol would be a fitting recognition.
Currently it has been left to the governor of each state to make a proclamation designating June 20 American Eagle Day. It's time to give bald eagles their due.
